José G. Cruz Rodríguez is a bilingual Mental Health Therapist and Substance Abuse Specialist with over 18 years of experience providing direct behavioral health services to adolescents and adults. He is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Chemical Dependency Clinical Supervisor (LCDCS), Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CAADC), and a Substance Abuse Professional (SAP) certified by the Department of Transportation.

José holds two doctorate degrees—one in Counseling and another in Clinical Psychology—from San Francisco Ecclesiastical Orthodox University and City University, respectively. As the founder of Diversity Counseling, he serves as a clinical supervisor, providing mentorship and guidance to clinical staff.

With his extensive credentials and experience, José specializes in supporting clients struggling with substance use disorders and conducting evaluations for individuals who require substance use assessments mandated by the Department of Transportation. His therapeutic approach integrates evidence-based modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Compassion-Focused Therapy, Mindfulness, Person-Centered Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing. He is passionate about helping clients find relief from overwhelming sadness, anxiety, and other mental health concerns by fostering the development of effective coping strategies.

José’s expertise extends to building collaborative relationships with clients, families, and professionals at all levels of care, including case workers and agency representatives. He is deeply committed to serving Hispanic and Latino communities and draws from his own personal and professional experiences to help clients overcome challenges related to anxiety, depression, mood disorders, substance abuse, and complex trauma.
